Delivery approach

  1. Situation

Policy documents, technical repositories, operational records, and structured systems each held part of the answer. Semantic search could find similar passages, but it lost the links needed for questions such as which service depended on an affected component and which policy applied. Duplicate entity names, conflicting source versions, access restrictions, and incomplete metadata ruled out a vector index as the sole source of truth.

  2. Task

Lead the architecture and delivery of a shared knowledge platform that connected entities across sources and returned both semantic and relationship context. Each answer needed inspectable evidence. The platform also had to enforce source permissions, accept incremental updates, abstain when evidence was weak, and give the team a repeatable way to evaluate and operate it.

  3. Action

Domain workshops produced a small ontology, canonical entity IDs, relationship types, provenance rules, effective dates, and access metadata. The ingestion pipeline keeps parsing, entity extraction, entity resolution, relationship validation, graph writes, and vector indexing as separate replayable stages. For each query, LangGraph classifies the question and runs semantic retrieval with a bounded graph traversal when relationship context is required. It reranks the combined evidence and allows generation only from source fragments the user can access. Evaluation cases cover single-hop and multi-hop questions, conflicting or stale sources, and permission boundaries. Traces record graph paths, citations, latency, token use, and abstentions. Before a prompt or ingestion change is promoted, the team can replay the evaluation set and compare it in a shadow release.

  4. Result

The platform combines vector recall with graph paths for questions that depend on relationships. A reviewer can trace an answer through the cited passages and graph path to the source record. Because extraction, resolution, retrieval, and generation are logged separately, maintainers can identify which stage failed. New domains can reuse the ingestion contract, evaluation set, and runbooks instead of starting with another isolated assistant.
